Working in a domiciliary or residential support setting, Standwalk supports service users who have a range of learning and physical disabilities, mental health needs, and sometimes distressed behaviour.
We ensure that every individual’s potential is maximised to lead ordinary lives. We support individuals with personal and physical care, finances, medication, and provide advice, guidance and support on a daily basis.
Our philosophy is to ensure the people we support always come first. We empower people to achieve their hopes, dreams and aspirations. Your home, your support, your choice.
As a support work, you will help our customers to achieve their desired outcomes, which could be progressing their independence, assistance with cooking, attending education or community activities to provide direct support, attending a sports activity such as swimming and day to say support.
Have you considered the difference you could make to another individual as a support worker?
As a support worker working in learning disability services, your calm, enthusiastic and encouraging approach will give you the opportunity to make a difference where every day brings new challenges and rewards.
Working with people means that each day is never the same. The day could be unpredictable, sometimes it can also be emotional.
The best support workers are people that see the person and not the disability. They approach everything they do in a caring, supportive, open-minded and positive manner.
You need to be “person centred”, which describes you as someone that always puts the individual first and at the heart of every choice and decision. Always ensuring that our customer’s are supported to achieve at every step of their journey.
Experience in this area of work is an advantage but what is more important to us is that you have the right attitude, great values, are prepared to learn on the job and have a willingness to give things a go and sometimes try something new!
You must be:
Friendly, outgoing and respectful
Be considerate and have an encouraging approach
Patience is certainly required!
The ability to remain calm under pressure
Flexibility and adaptability to work within health and safety guidelines
To be able to read and record information accurately and legibly
